Second-cycle study programme (postgraduate) with English as the language of instruction



The offer of these studies is meant for students with bachelor’s degree in Architecture and prepares them for professional practice as architects. The programme of studies is exactly the same as the curriculum in Polish which is a professional degree programme accredited by The Polish Accreditation Committee, The Accreditation Commission for Polish Universities of Technology, the EU evaluation as well as The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) evaluation. The programme of studies lasts for three semesters. The total number of ECTS credits is 90 (30 per semester). The total number of hours is 900 plus 150 for Internships after the 1st semester (1st semester: 405h +150h; 2nd semester: 390h, 3rd semester: 75h).

Description of the qualification
Graduate’s competences (what they know and can do on the aggregate level)*
The graduate has knowledge in the field of architectural, urban and conservational design, as well as spatial and regional planning, history and theory of architecture, urban design, rural planning, fine arts, shaping the human environment considering the relationships between people, architectural objects and the surrounding space, procedures for developing architectural designs accounting for social factors, design economics, realization of the architectural object and its use, as well as organisation of the construction process and integration of plans with planning designs in Poland and in the European Union.
He or she is able to undertake creative activities in the field of architectural and urban design, spatial planning, historic monument conservation, obtain professional licences, plan and manage construction works in the architectural specialisation, coordinate work in design teams, manage architectural and urban studios, run a business enterprise, undertake scientific activities, apply the rules of professional ethics, solve functional, use-related, construction, engineering and technological problems to the extent ensuring safety and comfort of use, apply technical and construction regulations and procedures, as well as have the command of at least one modern foreign language at level B2+. He or she understands the role of architect in the society and their influence on the quality of the environment.

Typical workplaces/positions*
The graduate is ready to be employed in architectural, urban design, conservation and interior design studios; in spatial planning and development agencies of municipalities, communes and regions; in construction companies,  real estate developing and property management companies; in public administration agencies and in local governments; in institutions of higher education and research, as well as in agencies dealing with planning, architectural and construction consulting. The gained qualifications offer a wide array of employment opportunities in Poland and abroad.

Professional credentials related to gaining the qualification
The qualification is governed by the education standard set out in the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 29 September 2011 on education standards for study programmes of veterinary medicine and architecture – Appendix 2 and in the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 18 July 2019 on the standard of education preparing graduates to practise architecture – Appendix 2.
It meets the requirements set out in European Union law – Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 September 2005 on the recognition of professional qualifications.
The qualification is a precondition for obtaining a construction licence in the architectural specialisation.
Architectural licences are awarded by licencing committees of the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland.

How the qualification facilitates gaining professional credentials
The graduate is awarded the degree of Master of Architecture

Additional information on the qualification
Information on specific characteristics of the study programme related to the graduate’s competences (dual study programme, obligatory semester internship, obligatory semester at a foreign university etc.)
A characteristic quality of the education process is developing the student’s aptitude to shape the surrounding space. Particular emphasis is placed in the education process on awakening students’ sensitivity to the need of paying special attention to spatial order and creating a sustainable living environment. The study programme is realized in cooperation with local governments and the socio-economic environment. Selected aspects of education are realized in international cooperation.

The possibility of gaining higher level of the qualification
The graduate is ready to undertake education in a doctoral school. Cracow University of Technology offers the possibility of continuing education in the doctoral school and obtaining the qualification at level 8 as defined by EQF.
