Prof. Elena Douvlou jest praktykującym architektem, a od 2015 roku liderem programu MArch Architecture & Urbanism w Metropolitan College (MC), w Marousi Campus, w Grecji. Tematem jest badań jest projektowanie budynków energooszczędnych. Posiada tytuł MAArch Advanced Architectural Design w dziedzinie architektury bioklimatycznej z University of Sheffield, School of Architecture, UK. Od ponad 20 lat prowadzi zajęcia z zakresu architektury bioklimatycznej, projektowania środowiskowego i zrównoważonego rozwoju, komfortu cieplnego, projektowania urbanistycznego i rewitalizacji oraz space syntax. Była zatrudniona jako starszy wykładowca i lider programu MSc Architecture & Sustainability na University of Portsmouth, jako badacz i profesor nadzwyczajny w instytucjach europejskich i amerykańskich (np. University of Sheffield, UK i Boston Architectural College, USA). Publikuje artykuły naukowe rozdziały monografii, a także prezentuje swoje badania na międzynarodowych konferencjach. Jest promotorem ponad 100 prac magisterskich, magisterskich,i doktorskich, a także recenzentem publikacji naukowych i książek z zakresu architektury, zrównoważonego projektowania oraz Virtual Exchange and Collaborative Online International Learning. Jest członkiem greckiej organizacji zawodowej TEE (Technical Chamber of Greece).

Architektura może być ucieleśnieniem czegoś, co w innym przypadku jest trudne do wyartykułowania. Narracja architektoniczna jest historią, którą opowiada budynek lub projekt przestrzenny i ostatecznie tworzy połączenia pomiędzy tym, co konceptualne i pragmatyczne.
Architekci mogą tworzyć narracje poprzez użycie form, materiałów, skali, światła, ciepła i dźwięku, szczególnie w sposób, który zwiększa praktyczność, łącząc formę z funkcją, zwracając uwagę na lokalizację i fizyczne właściwości miejsca projektu i pracując z nimi, a nie przeciwko nim, a także poprzez odniesienie do kontekstu i kultury, zapewniając ciągłość formy architektonicznej i znaczenia, jak również odpowiedzi na współczesne wyzwania globalne.
We are pleased to invite you to the lecture delivered by Professor Elena Douvlou, an academic at Mitropolitiko College of Athens entitled NARRATIVES OF ARCHITECTURE & URBAN DESIGN, that will take place in Room P6 at ul. Podchorążych 1, 12.05.2023 at. 9.00.
Prof. Elena Douvlou is a registered architect and since 2015 the Programme Leader of MArch Architecture & Urbanism at Metropolitan College (MC), in Marousi Campus, Greece. She completed a PhD in the area of energy building design and thermal comfort and holds a MAArch Advanced Architectural Design degree in the area of Bioclimatic Architecture both from the University of Sheffield, School of Architecture, UK. She has been teaching for over 20 years in the topics of Bioclimatic Architecture, Environmental Design and Sustainability, Thermal Comfort, Urban Design and Regeneration and Architectural Synthesis. She has been employed as a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader of MSc Architecture & Sustainability programme at the University of Portsmouth, as researcher and associate Professor in European and American institutions (e.g. University of Sheffield, UK and Boston Architectural College , USA). She has published articles and papers and contributed to book chapters, and presented her research at various international conferences. She has supervised over 100 MSc, MPhil, PhD Theses and Dissertations, and is an assessor of scientific publications and book reviews for architecture, sustainable design and Virtual Exchange and Collaborative Online International Learning. She is a member of TEE (Technical Chamber of Greece), the Architects Registration Board (ARB, UK) and the Royal Higher Education Academy (HEA, UK)
NARRATIVES OF ARCHITECTURE & URBAN DESIGN
Architecture can be an embodiment of something that is otherwise hard to articulate. An architectural narrative is the story that a building or spatial design tells, and ultimately creates connections between the conceptual and the pragmatic.
Architects can generate narratives by using forms, materials, scale, light, heat, and sound especially in ways that enhance practicality by linking form to function, by attending to the location and physical properties of a project’s site, and working with them rather tan against them and by reference to context and culture, ensuring continuity of architectural form and meaning as well contemporary global challenges.
